Brass characteristics and maintenance
■ Friends who understand copper materials should know that copper products will self-ignite and oxidize with color over time, which will gradually precipitate the unique retro color and texture. This is the charm of copper itself.
■ Natural oxidation of brass is inevitable, but oxidation makes it more flavorful and requires no special maintenance. But if you like to keep it bright, in addition to buying a professional brass maintenance solution, you can also use the following daily simple methods for maintenance:
1. Soap or mild detergent: If it is just dusty or dirty, not dim, immerse it in warm soapy water and clean it with a soft cloth. Particularly dirty areas can be gently brushed with a toothbrush.
2. Vinegar, salt and flour: These versatile kitchen items can be used to make pastes to clean darkened brass. Dissolve one teaspoon of salt in a half cup of vinegar and add the flour until it is a paste. Rub onto the brass, rinse with warm water after 10 minutes, and dry.
3. Water: Heat a little water and add 1 tablespoon salt and 1 tablespoon white vinegar to make another natural preparation for polishing brass. Apply this preparation to brass and dry it with a clean cloth.
